UDOG started with people who rode — not people who studied the footwear market and spotted a gap. The difference matters, because it shaped every decision that came after. For years, cycling shoes leaned on closure systems and construction ideas developed for other sports, other movements, other kinds of pressure on the foot. They worked, more or less. But "more or less" isn't the standard you hold yourself to when you've felt what a bad closure does on a four-hour ride — the hot spots, the micro-adjustments, the moments you're thinking about your foot instead of the road.
So the decision was simple, even if it wasn't easy: build our own. Not adapt, not license, not borrow. Build. That's where Twist Tech came from. Not as a feature to put on a spec sheet, but as an answer to a specific, first-hand frustration — designed around how a cyclist's foot actually moves and swells over the course of a ride, not around what was already sitting on a factory shelf.
Four years in, the company looks different than it did at the start. More models, more markets, more people involved in every decision. What hasn't changed is the question every new shoe has to answer before it gets made: does this genuinely improve the ride, or does it just look good in a product photo? It's a low bar to state and a hard one to hold to. Plenty of ideas don't survive it. The ones that do become part of the range.
There's a reason "Born in Italy from the love of cycling" isn't just a tagline. It's a description of who's in the room when a shoe gets designed — people who put in the kilometers themselves, who know the difference between a shoe that tests well and one that performs at hour three of a gravel climb. That's not a story we tell to sound authentic. It's just how the shoes get made.
